So here’s how each of us were affected by the rain as a result from Hurricane Ike. First, I need to give you a little history. We moved into our house on May 17th earlier this year. For about a month, Jeremiah and I were parking in the driveway because he had so much of his stuff in the garage from the move. Whenever I needed to go somewhere, the inside of my car would be so hot that it took at least 10-15 minutes to cool it off. All because I was parking in the driveway...in the exposed sun...without ANY shade. So after asking nicely, using sarcasm, and then downright demanding, I finally made Jeremiah clean out one side of the garage so that I can park in the garage. Every since then, I've been trying to convince him to clean out the other side of the garage so that he can park in the garage too.
On Thursday, 9/11, when the news about Ike was gaining popularity and how it would affect the DFW area, suddenly Jeremiah got motivated to clean out the other side of the garage! Why? So that he could park in the garage in the event that it started to hail. Or, to avoid having damage done to his car in the event that lighting struck a tree and it landed on his car. In his defense, we have seen 2 or 3 trees in our neighborhood get struck by lightning and the next morning, the trees were in the driveways. Anyway, Jeremiah posted a bunch of stuff that we had in the garage on craigslist for free. Most of it was landscape materials that we took out of the front yard b/c the lady that lived here before us was apparently crazy and went nuts with cement and rocks. Moving along, by noon on Saturday, in the rain mind you, he managed to get rid of 95% of the stuff. What people would do for free stuff! The only materials left are some rocks. The result, NOW WE CAN BOTH PARK IN THE GARAGE!!
On the left are the remaining landscaping rocks. Pardon the dirt on the driveway :o(
As the rain continued to pour, I heard a bunch of commotion on the other end of the house. Naturally, I go investigate and discovered that the noise is coming from Liz’s room. She is hard at work packing EVERYTHING that is important to her. It may be quicker for me to tell you what she left behind! I grabbed Jeremiah so that he could see what she was up to. Both of us were cracking up and knew that we had to get pictures of this. Please pay attention to her hair. She was working so hard that her hair started coming out of her ponytail holder. Finally, we asked her what she was doing and she said “I’m packing all my stuff together for when we have to evacuate!”
Here's Liz working hard packing!

All done and ready to go! I'm loving the hair, LOL!!!

Here she is going down the hallway to wait for the evacuation order! This kid cracks me up!!
As for me, I’ve never been a worrier and I have never been able to frighten easily. So while Jeremiah was getting rid of the stuff in the garage…while Liz was preparing to make a run for it…I was drooling over Baby Prickett’s sonogram. In case you haven’t tried yet, I encourage you to click on the buttons/icons on the fetal monitor at the top. The pink and green ones are my favorite.
Here's Baby Prickett's close up!
As the early evening slowly approached us, and the rain was still coming down, we decided to watch one of the movies that we checked out from the library. We popped in the original, in black and white, Father of the Bride with Spencer Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor. It was pretty good and fun for the entire family!

By the end of the night, we survived being in the house all day. Whew...what a day!!
