Scary Weekend
After having a great day at church on July 29th, we headed to the hospital to visit Sophia. We were looking forward to a nice quiet visit. When we arrived, she was in the process of being placed on the oscillator, aka...life support. As the week progressed, her health continued to decline. Friday, August 3rd, the hospital called and Sophia's condition is so serious that we need to start talking about "end of life".
As usual, I dropped everything and headed to the hospital. Jeremiah left work early and met me there. We were instructed to spend as much time with Sophia as we could and that is exactly what we did. We spent the night Friday and Saturday because we wanted to be there in the event that she passed away. There were quite a few moments that were really scary. We told the doctors and nurses that we would like to continue treatment if it was good for her. If they started doing things to her, then stop treatment. Also, her heart rate would get up to 175bpm and it would take two hours to get it back to 110. Her lungs were so inflated with air that it would constrict her heart and it couldn't beat properly. We took tons of pics and these made the cut.
One of her nurses made her some bows while we were at lunch. Surprisingly, I was able to eat.
This day was hard and Sophia was so very tired.
We're smiling but we're dying on the inside.
Aren't you glad we're staying true to ourselves?
She was on enough drugs to sedate a horse! She was seeing so many rainbows and butterflies!
This girl is loving her drugs, LOL!

At some point, I decided that we should give her a crash course on the gospel. The highlights were the plan of salvation, the law of chastity, and baptism. We also told her all about how her parents met and our wedding day.
Moving on. Let's fast forward to August 5th, We are preparing to spend our last hours with Sophia. Jeremiah's mom and my family came out to visit and completely took over the waiting room. Savannah, Scarlett, and Elizabeth saw Sophia for the first time. I wasn't sure how they would react but they did pretty good. The visit went well and Sophia was so pleased that she was getting so much attention!
After having a very long and hard weekend, we decided to go home to spend time with the girls as a family. As we were leaving the hospital, Jeremiah saw this guy in a wheelchair. He was trying to get on the sidewalk but couldn't. Jeremiah pulled over and helped him get on the curb. As heavy as Jeremiah's heart was, he was still thinking clear enough to help someone else in need. I sure love him!
One last thing. I have always told myself that as long as Sophia was fighting, I would help her fight. When she tells me that she is too tired to fight and too weak to carry on, then I'll accept it and will let her go. After having the weekend that we had, I never felt that she was going to die. Even though we were making plans regarding her burial and holding her up to 12 hours after she passed if we wanted to, I never felt like this is how her life was going to end.
Last Monday we got to the hospital and Sophia was off of life support. Can you believe that?! She's still pretty sick but at least she is stable. She's not breathing on her own but the ventilator that she's on is much gentler on her. I wanted to roll her in a corner for a time out! That little stinker. Shame on her for scaring her parents like that! After fasting and many prayers our baby girl is still alive and "trending positively!" Amen to that!!!

Sophia's Blessing
I wanted to wait until Sophia was home from the hospital to give her a proper blessing at church. Well, the truth is that baby girl isn't doing so well anymore. We asked our bishop to come out to the hospital so that he and Jeremiah could give Sophia a blessing. What started out being a blessing of healing, turned into a name and blessing, too. Jeremiah did a great job as usual. I was so emotional and don't remember much of what was said. However, I do remember that the blessing was emotional and very sweet. Sophia was a good girl and slept through the whole thing! To be fair, she was on a lot of drugs and couldn't be more beautiful. Here's Sophia Lynette Prickett!

Library Summer Party
Last Saturday I braved the heat with Scarlett and Savannah at our local library final summer celebration party. There were so many things to see and do and we never made it inside for the indoor activities. There was a play inside at the end of the activities and that was cute. Basically, we celebrated all of the fun we've had while reading books over the summer. I love taking the girls to storytime and seeing them have so much fun! They sing, dance, and really enjoy the stories that are read to them. Now, they have developed a love for books and stories and I love that!
The dunking booth was fun. The girls are obviously not strong enough to throw a ball to dunk this guy. A lady was kind enough to lift Scarlett so that she could dunk him. It was cute and Scarlett enjoyed it.
Inside the ambulance. I've never been this close to one before. This guy was so nice and great with kids.
By the way, I've decided to become a policewoman. My next main goal in life is to become a traffic cop. I'm sick of people who sit at a green light when it turns green. Really?! What shade of green are you waiting for?! GOOOOO!!! I'm sick of people who drive slow in the fast lane on the highways and biways. 70mph is a bare minimum in the fast lane. My favorite is when people drive UNDER the speed limit. Don't even get me started with the people that park over the lines. The lines are there for you to park between them. Not over them. If you're that paranoid about someone dinging your vehicle, park way in the back of the parking lot! Then, when I make it to congress, all suv drivers will be required to renew their licenses every year to remind them that driving a suv is a privilege not a right. Why, why, why must these people drive EXTRA slow EVERYWHERE! If you can't get on with your business, get into a sedan or a minivan!!! I'm telling you, I'll be giving out citations left and right!!! If you've ever been a victim to any of these offenses, you're welcome. A change is coming...if I haven't lost my fight by then.
Back to the kids. I don't know what the faces were about but they cracked me up.
Then I realized that they discovered the snow cone truck.
Much happier.
After we left the library, I headed to my parents to drop the girls off so that I could head to the hospital. A song comes on the radio and Scarlett was singing loud and hard. The song? I'm Wide Awake by Katy Perry. I've never heard this song and my 3 year old is belting out the chorus!
Then she became shy after she noticed that I was watching her. It was another good day and I'm glad the girls had a blast.
